Your Bed Changes Over Time. Your Bedding Should Too.
We all know when it’s time to replace a toothbrush, update skincare or swap out worn clothing. But bedding is often left out of that cycle entirely.
For many of us, the answer to ‘how long have I had this?’ is longer than we’d like to admit.
Your bed is where you spend around a third of your life, yet bedding is often treated as something we buy once and forget about for years. In reality, even the highest-quality materials don’t stay the same forever. Regularly refreshing your bedding helps maintain a cleaner, more comfortable and more supportive sleep environment.
At NakedLab, we use an 18-month mark as a gentle reset point. Not a rule or expiry date, but a simple way to reassess how your bedding is performing as it naturally evolves through use and washing.

Why bedding changes over time
Each night, bedding absorbs sweat, body oils, dead skin cells and moisture. Even with regular washing, these naturally build up and gradually affect how fabric feels.
The Sleep Foundation highlights the importance of maintaining a healthy sleep environment, noting that bedding naturally changes with use even when well cared for. While there’s no fixed timeline for replacement, they encourage ongoing attention to sleep hygiene and the condition of your bedding as part of overall sleep quality.
What starts as softness and structure slowly becomes something less breathable, less responsive and less inviting, often so gradually you only notice it when you experience something new.
The subtle signs it’s time for a refresh
It’s not always obvious when bedding has moved past its best. More often, it’s a feeling.
It may be time for a reset if:
* Your sheets don’t feel as soft as they once did
* The fabric feels thinner or less substantial
* Colours have faded over time
* Temperature regulation feels less consistent
* You notice increased irritation or sensitivity
* Your bed doesn’t feel as inviting at the end of the day
The Sleep Foundation notes that a clean, well-maintained sleep environment supports better sleep hygiene and comfort, particularly as allergens naturally build up in fabrics over time.
Even when bedding still looks fine, performance can quietly decline.

How different fabrics age
All bedding materials evolve with use, but none remain unchanged.
Cotton gradually softens in a way that can become less smooth over time. Linen is durable but naturally shifts in texture with use. Silk offers luxury but has poor breathability and requires careful handling due to its delicate nature.
Bamboo, by contrast, is designed for resilience and luxury.
At NakedLab, our bamboo bedding is created to maintain softness, breathability and temperature regulation through regular use and washing. But like all natural materials, it will still evolve over time.
Think of bamboo as extending comfort for longer — not removing the need to refresh entirely.
Why washing alone isn’t enough
Most people wash their bedding weekly, and rightly so. The Sleep Foundation recommends weekly washing to help remove sweat, oils and skin cells that naturally build up during sleep.
But washing maintains cleanliness, not performance.
With every wash, fibres gradually soften and shift. Even if bedding still looks good, it may no longer feel as supportive, breathable or comfortable as it once did.
A good sleep environment is both clean and high-performing — and performance naturally changes over time.
The 18-month reset
Rather than waiting for visible wear, we recommend using 18 months as a simple checkpoint to reassess your bedding.
Ask yourself:
* Does my bed still feel as comfortable as it used to?
* Do I still get the same level of softness and comfort?
* Does my bedding still feel inviting at the end of the day?
If not, it may be time for a refresh.
Many NakedLab customers naturally return around this point, sometimes to update their bedding, sometimes to introduce a new tone into their space, and often to rediscover that feeling of a freshly made bed that simply feels different.
Because sleep isn’t static. Life changes, seasons shift, and your home evolves with you.

A gentle reminder
If it’s been a while since you last updated your NakedLab bedding, this is your quiet reminder to check in.
Not because it’s no longer good enough, but because it may no longer be at its best.
A refreshed sleep environment can subtly change how a room feels and how deeply you rest.
The Sleep Foundation encourages regular attention to the condition of your sleep environment, from sheets to pillows, because each element plays a role in overall sleep quality.
If it’s been around 18 months or more, this might be the right moment to begin again.
