What is Modal?

Modal is a refined plant-based fibre known for its exceptional softness, smooth texture, and lightweight breathability. Derived from sustainably sourced beechwood pulp, Modal offers a silky feel that sits gently against the skin while maintaining strength and durability over time.

At NakedLab, we select Modal for pieces where comfort and ease are essential. The fabric drapes naturally, feels cool to the touch, and remains consistently soft through repeated wear and washing — creating a material that blends everyday practicality with a quiet sense of luxury.

Elevated Softness for Elevated Sleep

Modal is a semi-natural fibre made from the cellulose of beech trees. Through a carefully controlled process, the raw material is transformed into fine, smooth fibres that are woven into a breathable, lightweight fabric.

The result is a textile that feels noticeably softer and smoother than many traditional materials, while also offering strength and flexibility. Modal holds its shape well, resists shrinking, and maintains its refined finish over time, making it particularly suited to garments worn close to the skin.

Soft, Breathable, and Made to Move

One of Modal’s defining qualities is its lasting softness. The fibres are naturally smooth, creating a fabric that feels gentle and almost weightless, without losing structure or durability.

At the same time, Modal allows air to circulate easily and absorbs moisture efficiently, helping to regulate temperature and maintain a fresh, dry feel throughout the day or night. This balance of softness and breathability makes it ideal for sleepwear, loungewear, and lightweight essentials.

The fabric moves naturally with the body, offering comfort without restriction — whether resting, travelling, or simply unwinding at home.

Modal’s smooth fibre structure reduces friction against the skin, creating a clean, soft finish that enhances overall comfort. For many, this makes it a preferred choice for fabrics worn for extended periods, particularly during sleep.

Despite its softness, Modal is also highly resilient. It resists pilling, holds its shape, and retains its smooth texture even after frequent washing. The result is a material that continues to look and feel refined over time, without compromise.

Our Modal sheets don’t use a traditional cotton thread count, as Modal fibres are naturally fine, silky, and tightly woven. Instead, we focus on the quality and density of the weave to achieve exceptional softness, breathability, and long-lasting comfort, delivering the luxurious feel NakedLab is known for.

Can you tell me more about Modal?

Modal is a luxuriously soft, plant-based fabric made from renewable wood fibres. Naturally breathable and smooth with a subtle woven texture, it feels cool, light, and gentle against your skin. Designed for year-round comfort, Modal helps regulate temperature and wick away moisture, keeping you comfortably balanced through every season. It’s also sustainably produced, offering an eco-conscious way to enjoy the silky softness NakedLab is known for.

Does the Modal fabric pill?

Slight pilling may occur initially as Modal is made from natural plant-based fibres and is not treated with harsh chemicals. This is completely normal and will reduce over time with gentle washing. Pilling is not a defect - it’s simply part of the natural settling process of the fabric. To minimise pilling, wash your bedding inside out on a gentle cycle, avoid high heat, and line dry where possible.

What bed sizes do the Modal sheets fit?

Our Modal bedding is currently available in Twin, King, and Super King sizes, designed to bring luxurious comfort to every bedroom.

Each piece is tailored to fit standard mattress dimensions, with deep pocket fitted sheets for a secure and smooth fit. We’ll be introducing additional sizes soon, so stay tuned for updates.
